Save9Lives Launches Chatty Bench in Cotswolds
Loneliness is an issue that affects many individuals in our society, and it often goes unnoticed. However, a small clip on daytime TV sparked a big idea that has been spreading across the country, bringing people together and combatting isolation - the concept of "Chatty Benches."
Chatty Benches are simple yet powerful initiatives that are making a significant impact on local communities. The idea is straightforward: designated benches are placed in public spaces where people can sit and strike up a conversation with strangers. If you're sitting on a Chatty Bench, you're inviting others to join you for a chat. But if you prefer some quiet time, no worries, as there are plenty of other regular benches nearby.

Inspired by the TV clip about loneliness, Collette wanted to introduce the concept of Chatty Benches to her village of Broadway. Collette's idea quickly gained traction, and she shared her intentions on the Broadway notice board. The response was overwhelmingly positive, demonstrating that many people in the community were eager to participate.
While the idea of Chatty Benches received positive feedback, getting permission to install them and finding suitable locations proved to be challenging. Collette met a local who had his private bench dedicated to his late wife on the High Street, which prompted her to use the Chatty Benches as a platform to encourage conversations about organ donation—an essential yet often overlooked topic.
Now, members in Broadway can take a seat on our Save9Lives ‘Chatty Bench’ and use this to fuel the necessary conversation around organ donation.
You can visit the Save9Lives Chatty Benches on Broadway Highstreet and just outside the Co-op.
